This installation was commissioned by the 2016 Nebraska State Fair to celebrate a growing emphasis on environmental sustainability and technology at the Fair. An 1800 sq ft tent hosted exhibits, lectures, and performers entertaining the crowd while sharing an environmental message The canopy draws attention to the stage while accommodating information signage within the canopy's shape.
The Marketplace Sustainability Pavilion revives the nostalgia of the carnival through liberal uses of color and texture applied to a droopy surface of recycled fabrics assuming an upside down facsimile of traditional tension circus tents. This tent inside a tent no longer needs to shed water or provide shade allowing it to venture into provocative and interactive formal territories encouraging audience participation and delight. Treated with an air purifying chemical, this tent actively scrubs and purifies the air eliminating perhaps the more unwelcome scents associated with a circus.
